India is a vast country and in India festivals means celebration which brings happiness for everyone. Each Indian festivals brings the family together which calls for a celebration. Raksha Bandhan is one of them. Raksha Bandhan is basically a festival of brothers and sisters which celebrates the bond of affection between brother and sister. On this day brothers keep promise to their sisters to protect them from all harm,misfortune and troubles and the sisters pray to God to protect their brothers from all bad situations. Sisters tie the silk thread called Rakhi on their brother's wrist and pray for their well beings and brothers promise to take care of their sisters. Raksha Bandhan celebrates in month of August.

Any Indian festivals seems to be incomplete without traditional indian festivities such as gathering, celebrations, exchange of sweets and gifts, lots of noise, singing and dancing.Festivals are the celebration of togetherness as being as a united family and the festival Raksha Bandhan is not the exception of this. Raksha word in Raksha Bandhan indicates "protection" and Bandhan indicates "bond", so in other word it is also called bonding festival ie bonding between brothers and sisters,between family,relatives or between love ones.
On the celebration day,sisters ready the pooja thali with roli,sweets,diyas,rice and rakhis. They put roli and rice on their brothers forehead and then tie a sacred thread of love called rakhi to their brother's wrist and wishes to God for there well being. Now brothers give them a return gift and promises that he will now protect them throughout whole life from all harms and hard situations. So overall this festival helps to exchange the blessings,feelings and best wishes to each other.
For those who are unable to visit one another rakhi card, e-rakhis and rakhis throught mails become the modes of their communication and sharing of their love. Hand made rakhi and self made rakhis cards are just a representation of the personel feelings of the siblings.
From ancient period of time, this festivals has been celebrated in same the manner and tradition. As the lifestyle of people has been changing with passing time,yet people celebrate Rakha Bandhan festival with very elaborately.
Rakhi is a day all about raksha or protection,not just for self but for the dear one, for peaceful existance on the human race. Each ritual that is followed has a significance. The sisters seek love from their brothers ,the brothers seek courage and endurance. People worship the God of water,the basis of life. The significance of Raksha Bandhan is to bring people together just like the true spirit of all other Indian festivals.
